CulturalDC had a busy year presenting new work, new artists, new programs and new workshops. Here’s a look at the 9 exhibitions at Flashpoint Gallery; 24 new works presented at Source Festival; 11 artist talks in collaboration with The Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center; 12 member events; 9 Professional Development workshops, 4 productions at the Mead Theatre Lab Program at Flashpoint and MORE!

January 6 – Opened an exhibition by Aoife Collins with Solas Nua called Tickling the Ivories at Flashpoint Gallery.

January 8 – Presented a talk by visual artist E. Brady Robinson in collaboration with The Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center.

January 12 – Presented an artist talk by artist Aoife Collins in collaboration with Solas Nua at Flashpoint Gallery.

February 17 – Opened Into the Dollhouse produced by banished? productions in Flashpoint’s Mead Theatre Lab Program.

February 25 – Presented a professional development seminar called “The Art of Taxes: What to Fill Out, What to File.”

February 25 – Presented a talk by visual artist Jacqueline Levine in collaboration with The Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center.

March 16 – Opened Tattooed Potato’s The Nightmare Dreamer, directed by John Michael MacDonald, developed in collaboration with John Milosich in Flashpoint’s Mead Theatre Lab Program.

March 23 – Opened an exhibition with Calder Brannock called Adventure Residency Program Headquarters at Flashpoint Gallery.

March 25 – Presented a talk by visual artist Mariah Anne Johnson in collaboration with The Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center.

April 7 – Presented a talk by visual artist Calder Brannock in collaboration with The Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center.

April 21The Studio Visit & CulturalDC presented a professional development workshop, “The Write Stuff: Artist Statements.”

April 28 – CulturalDC held its Annual Gala.

May 4 – Opened an exhibition with Lisa Dillin called The Alternate Present at Flashpoint Gallery.

May 12 – Opened Factory 449‘s The Ice Child by Rick Hammerly & Lisa Hodsoll, directed by Hunter Styles in the Mead Theatre Lab Program at Flashpoint.

May 16 – Presented a professional development seminar called “The State of Social Media: What’s Useful and What’s a Time Sink?”

May 19 – The Studio Visit & CulturalDC presented a professional development workshop called “The Conversation: Talking About Your Work.”

May 20 – Presented a talk by visual artist Lisa Dillin in collaboration with The Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center.

June 7 – Opened the first group of six 10-Minute Plays at Source Festival.

June 8 – Opened an exhibition with Megan Mueller called I built this for you at Flashpoint Gallery.

June 8 – Launched the opening night for the 5th annual Source Festival with six more 10-Minute Plays.

June 9 – Opened the third group of 10-Minute Plays at Source Festival.

June 12 – Opened full length play Qualities of Starlight at Source Festival.

June 13 – Opened full length play Uses of Enchantment at Source Festival.

June 14 – Opened full length play The House Halfway at Source Festival.

June 12 – Opened Artistic Blind Date Shadow Matter: Exam Log X at Source Festival.

June 13 – Opened Artistic Blind Date Filter at the Source Festival.

June 14 – Opened  Artistic Blind Date The Pressure Cooker at the Source Festival.

June 29 – Held Source Festival Talent Show.

June 24 – Presented a talk by visual artist Megan Mueller in collaboration with The Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center.

July 6 – Held a professional development workshop called, “Unraveling the Tech Mystique Workshop: Theatre Tech 101.”

July 20 – Opened an exhibition with Hana Kim and Shana Kim called Atmospheric Front at Flashpoint Gallery.

July 22 – Presented a talk by visual artists Hana Kim and Shana Kim in collaboration with Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center.

August 9 – Offered a professional development seminar called, “The Now of Social Media.”

August 22 – Held a professional development workshop called, “Unraveling the Tech Mystique : Theatre Tech 101.”

August 24 – Opened an exhibition with Polly Townsend called Slower Than This at Flashpoint Gallery.

August 28 – Hosted an Access CulturalDC Member Event for the Flashpoint season kickoff.

September 5 – Opened Read: White & Blue Produced by Hueman Prophets directed by Psalmayene in Mead Theatre Lab Program at Flashpoint.

September 11 – Held a professional development workshop called “Going Public: Crafting an Artist Talk for All Audiences.”

September 28 – Opened an exhibition with Mariah Anne Johnson called In the Pines at Flashpoint Gallery.

September 29 – The Studio Visit & CulturalDC presented a professional development workshop, “Packaging Yourself: Putting it All Together.”

September 30 – Presented a talk by visual artist Krista Caballero in collaboration with The Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center.

October 4 – Flashpoint Gallery exhibited artists at the (e)merge art fair.

October 28 – Presented a talk by visual artist Mariah Anne Johnson in collaboration with The Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center.

November 9 – Opened an exhibition with Benjamin Bellas called losing something you never had at Flashpoint Gallery.

November 14 – Hosted a professional development workshop by Pete Miller called “Audience Building Beyond Advertising.”

November 17 – Held a Information Session for the 27 artist studios and arts use at Monroe Street Market in Brookland, hosted by Lavinia Wohlfarth Gallery.

November 18 – Presented a talk by visual artist Benjamin Bellas in collaboration with The Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center.

December 1 – Hosted a Hard Hat Tour and Information Session for the 27 artist studios at Monroe Street Market in Brookland.

December 1 – Presented a talk by visual artist Amanda Jirón-Murphy with collaboration with Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center.

December 1 – Opened Rebollar Dance’s Space Junk presented as a collaboration between the Mead Theatre Lab Program and CityDance at Strathmore.

December 4 – Offered a professional development workshop, “Unraveling the Tech Mystique: Theatre Lights & Sound 101.”

December 6 – Held an Access CulturalDC Membership Event called “Creative Conversation: the Intersection of Art and Architecture.”
