WHO WE ARE

Anne L. Corbett
Executive Director

Anne oversaw the creation of Cultural Development Corporation (CuDC) by forging partnerships with the DC government, real estate developers, and community organizations to ensure that affordable, accessible space for artists to live, work and present exists in the region. She created the Flashpoint arts incubator, reinvented Source theatre as a collaborative arts venue and developed the programs that enable the creation of new work, produce and present emerging arts, and build the capacity of small arts organizations. She oversees a staff of 15 and a $1.5million budget. Each year, under Anne's leadership, CuDC presents10-12 visual art exhibitions in the Flashpoint Gallery and nontraditional spaces throughout the community, 10-12 performing arts productions, the three-week Source Festival, and grants to 25 individual artists working and living in the region. The go-to organization for arts space development, CuDC also develops affordable housing, provides technical assistance on arts facility planning and consults with developers on integrating arts uses into mixed-use projects. Anne was instrumental in creating and incubating Art-O-Matic, (now an independent nonprofit organization) the country's largest artist-driven multi-media exhibit in vacant commercial space. Other arts groups that have been incubated during Anne's tenure include: Capital Fringe, Step Afrika!, Dance Institute of Washington, Constellation Theatre Company and Solas Nua.

In this capacity, she published Arts in a Living Downtown: A Guide to Putting Arts to Work for Downtown Revitalization (Partners for Livable Communities, 1998). Other responsibilities at Partners included managing a $3.5 million initiative of the William Penn Foundation and advising a $3 million initiative of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation.

Anne has numerous professional awards including the Meyer Foundation's Exponent Award for Outstanding Leadership (which included a cash prize of $100,000). She is a member of ArtTable, Commercial Real Estate Women, and Leadership Greater Washington Class of 2001. Anne earned a Masters in Community Planning, specializing in Economic Development, from the University of Maryland. Her award-winning thesis analyzed the economic impact of stadium development. She graduated from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Economics.
