Within Washington, DC's vibrant theater scene is a noted proliferation of world premieres. How is this emerging popularity of new work supported here in Washington, DC? How do efforts to produce new work here develop a new generation of playwrights and support established writers? How does this work in Washington shape American theatre? Arena Stage's Producing Artistic Associate David Dower, Woolly Mammoth's Literary Manager Elissa Goetschius, Washington City Paper theatre critic Trey Graham, and Source Festival Producer Jeremy Skidmore will discuss these questions as well as the District's place in the national theater landscape in this provocative panel discussion.

Each Thursday, Friday and Saturday night serves up distinct performance pairings to perk up your palette. Find a mix with the flavors you’d like to try, or just find the date you want and leave the choice to us. If variety is the spice of life then this summer WIT is … spicy.

Phil Gross’ artwork has its origin in his fascination with the use of mirrors and cameras to create pieces combining an array of colors and shapes into geometric images that let the mind and imagination wonder.
A variety of elements are combined to create his works ranging from feathers to beads to wire screens and more, often in an oil base enabling the creation of depth and universality. The images are then digitally photographed and printed on various media depending on the nature of the image.
Phil Gross received his BA and MPA from Syracuse University and studied at the Corcoran School of Art.

14. 'Black and White' by Jeanne Garant presented by Touchstone Gallery The series of oil or acrylic paintings on canvas are all squares, formal compositions and a limited palette.
Opening Reception: Friday, June 13, 6 - 8:30 pm

June 11 - July 6, 2008

Wednesday - Friday 11 am - 5 pm Saturday - Sunday 12 - 5 pm

where:

Touchstone Gallery

Washington

t: 202.347.2787

Why 'Black and White'?
When I was asked to do several black and white paintings for a collector, I could not stop. When I finally came up for air I was well on my way with enough work for this solo show.
This series of oil or acrylic paintings on canvas are all squares, formal compositions and a limited palette. Non-traditional materials, such as string, paper yarn and objects that relate to the fiber arts create a textured surface that add interest to the simple, quiet style I try very hard to maintain.
Over the years, I have found that what really works for me in my creative process is to limit myself. Design, color palette, the materials I choose must have some restraints or I'm off in another direction - which it did for this exhibit. The encaustic (wax) paintings are a new exploration but by limiting the color, the format and the size, the encaustic pieces add another element of surprise.

15. “Wish You Were Here” by Nnacy Novick presented by Touchstone Gallery Forty 12 x 12 inches paintings with elements of collage.
Opening Reception: Friday, June 13, 6 - 8:30 pm

when:

June 11 - July 6, 2008

Wednesday - Friday 11 am - 5 pm Saturday - Sunday 12 - 5 pm

where:

Touchstone Gallery

406 7th Street NW 2nd Floor

Washington

t: 202.347.2787

cost

free

Nancy Novick’s forty 12’ x 12’ paintings in her “Wish You Were Here” exhibit reflect the character of recently visited places and meaningful events. Using the language of her earlier body of work, particularly her exploration of the square, she adds a new element of collage. She revisits her ephemera, adding bits of maps, menus and tickets to create a whimsical yet personal “postcard” of each place.

Each canvas holds a quiet, ordered beauty. She engages in a constant practice of making decisions, editing and finding balance. Shapes, lines and spatial intervals are always a consideration. Her process of adding, subtracting, layering and marking gives each painting a rich history of its own.
