Flashpoint Gallery showcases bold, new work and cultivates emerging and mid-career artists working in a variety of media including site-specific installations, performance pieces, new media and other experimental forms. As a nonprofit gallery free from the constraints of commercial expectations, Flashpoint encourages artists and curators to take creative risks.
Each exhibition season is recommended by a panel of eminent arts professionals who review each proposal, select exhibitions and mentor artists. Staff provides guidance and coaching throughout the application process.
An advisory panel of noted arts professionals recommends the programming for the gallery and provides mentorship and support to exhibiting artists. The 2016 – 2017 panel includes: Akemi Maegawa, a Corcoran alumni and artist specializing in sculpture and installation works; Laura Roulet, an independent curator specializing in contemporary and Latin American art and fostering artists in the DMV region; Andy Grundberg, an art critic, curator, and a former dean and professor at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C.; and Schwanda Rountree, independent curator and collector for Rountree Art Consulting.
