Washington, DC – September 19, 2018 – CulturalDC’s Mobile Art Gallery is excited to continue partnering with Cedar Realty Trust to deliver its latest exhibit.
Jung Min Park’s ‘Memory-Scape’, captures the images of Washington D.C. based on her experiences of the city in various perspectives and visual elements. The installation is designed to arouse common memories for residents across DC.
Park’s abstract, dreamlike recreations of D.C. neighborhoods spark a strangely familiar feeling in viewers. Places that Jung Min has visited are represented in multimedia paintings that are beautifully cut and collaged. Some will hang on the wall, playfully interacting with the shadows. Others are suspended in lightboxes, each layer providing the viewer a deeper look at the details of a cityscape. Three-dimensional objects such as trees and buildings will be provided for people to play with on surfaces of the paintings.
The exhibition asks participants to learn about and appreciate architecture, illusion of depth and the beautiful design of everyday life.
“Through the Mobile Art Gallery Project, I hope people not only look at the painting or lightbox, but can feel it for themselves, using their different senses by seeing, touching and reconstructing. Art can be enjoyable and interactive,” says artist Jung Min Park.
“Memory-Scape is a delightfully interactive piece, perfect for the neighborhood. With the layers of textures, abstract but familiar shapes and colors, these artworks create a space for people sharing this place to commemorate their community and common memories,” said Ava LaTanya Hilton, CulturalDC’s Executive Director.
“It’s been an honor to work alongside CulturalDC to bring this ongoing artistic celebration to life at East River Park. With the addition of the “Memory-Scape” exhibit, we are excited to provide more opportunities for local residents to experience works from aspiring and renowned artists” said Robin Zeigler, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Cedar Realty Trust.
“Cedar Realty Trust is committed to serving the community with an emphasis on doing well, by doing good. It is Cedar’s priority to connect residents and foster positive engagement initiatives, like the mobile art gallery and the upcoming “Art All Night” festival that will be held on September 29, 2018, to sustain and grow upon the art, culture and history that gives Ward 7 its unique character.”
